National Hydration Day is June 23, 2022. If you’re wondering how to celebrate this unique occasion, consider taking steps to ensure your skin is healthy and hydrated this summer. During the summer, it’s easy for the body and skin to become dehydrated. When the skin becomes dehydrated, it’s more prone to wrinkles and may take on a dull appearance. To combat this common problem, here are five ways to hydrate your skin in honor of National Hydration Day.

1. Drink More Water

This may seem obvious, but the best way to hydrate your skin is to increase your water intake. Water recommendations have changed over the years, but a good rule of thumb is to drink enough water throughout the day that your urine stays pale or clear and has little to no odor. If your urine is obviously yellow or has a bad smell, it’s time to drink more water!

2. Use Gentle, Non-Drying Cleansing Products

Some facial cleansing products dry out your skin too much and shouldn’t be used. If your face feels really tight and irritated after cleansing, it may be time to switch to a gentler, more moisturizing cleanser. If possible, look for a cleanser intended for sensitive skin, since this type of cleanser is generally made with gentle ingredients that won’t strip your skin of moisture.

Some people like to cleanse their skin twice per day. But if you’re dealing with dry, dehydrated skin, it may be best to only cleanse at night. In the morning, simply take a clean, slightly damp cloth and use it to wipe away any excess oils that have built up on your skin during the night.

3. Moisturize Consistently

Moisturizer is a must during the summer. In honor of National Hydration Day, make a goal to step up your moisturizing routine. Make sure you always apply a lightweight moisturizer after every face-washing session. Moisturizing regularly is key to keeping your skin supple and soft, even when the weather outside is harsh and hot.

4. Buy a Cool-Mist Humidifier

If you don’t have a cool-mist humidifier, it’s time to invest in one. The typical air conditioning system can be very drying, which is why it’s important to restore moisture to the air inside your home. Air pulls moisture from any source available—including your skin. To replenish your skin’s moisture content each night, sleep with a cool-mist humidifier near your bed. When you wake up, your skin will likely feel softer and dewier.

5. Receive IV Hydration

It’s possible to become dehydrated despite your best efforts. If you ever feel like your body needs a little more hydration, consider receiving IV hydration therapy. This safe and effective treatment replenishes lost body fluids and provides your body with additional nutrients it needs to experience improved energy levels, clearer skin and increased cardiovascular health.

There are multiple IV Hydration therapy options available at Newport Medical and Wellness Center. From the standard hydration IV to specialized add-ons that can provide pain and nausea relief, you can customize your IV treatment to address any specific needs you may have. Once you are finished with your IV therapy, you will likely notice increased energy levels and healthier, more hydrated skin.
