New Year’s Resolutions: Staying Focused

Finally, the season of indulgence is over and you are on a path to get fit! It’s important to check yourself to make sure you are staying focused on your New Year’s resolutions. Here are a few ways you can stay on target.

Put It in Writing

Make sure you put your goals in writing, but also try breaking big goals into attainable mini-goals. Use measurable qualities like body weight or circumference of your waist so you know when you have made progress.

Strengthen the Narrative

You have developed a narrative in your mind about your goal and your path to get there. Strengthen the narrative by submersing yourself in media that reinforces the narrative. Read fitness books and blogs, listen to podcasts, and check out some videos that support your goals.

Visualize the Win

Another great way to reinforce the narrative of the fitter, leaner you is to use well-known meditation and visualization practices. Meditation will help you clear the mind of clutter and enhance your overall focus and discipline. To visualize yourself winning the goal, try guided meditation or a vision board.

Remove Distractions

What distracts you from reaching a fitness goal? Be honest with yourself about weaknesses and triggers so you can remove those temptations. For example, many people are triggered to snack at night when they are tired. When they find that urge coming on, it’s time to go to bed.

Structure Accountability
