Do you get easily bored by exercising? If so, you may be looking for unique ways to get your blood pumping. Though it may be hard to take some of these activities seriously, here are a few fun and unique exercise trends to try this year.

Goat Yoga

If you like Yoga and you like goats, why not combine the two? A hot new trend is developing called Goat Yoga. To participate, you simply perform your favorite Yoga poses while miniature goats climb and pounce all over you. It’s a little strange, but also adorable. It’s also surprisingly challenging to maintain your balance when you’ve got a cute little creature climbing on your back.

Cardioke

Cardioke is the fun new trend you didn’t know you needed. It combines fun, dance-like cardio with karaoke. To put it simply, you just sing to music while you exercise. It does take a certain level of fitness to engage in this activity, so be forewarned. If you can barely breathe when you’re working out and can’t imagine singing through your jumping jacks, you probably won’t experience the full enjoyment of this exercise.

Surfset

Have you always wanted to learn how to surf but don’t have easy access to the ocean? Surfset may be perfect for you. The activity involves a surfboard-type apparatus that is mounted on top of a ball attached to a platform. It’s designed to mimic the movements of a surfboard in the water. It taxes your thighs, core and other supporting muscles in an impressive way and prepares you for a real surfing adventure.

Backwards Running

No, this isn’t a joke. Backwards running is a real thing, and it’s growing in popularity in certain communities. Though it looks pretty silly to bystanders, backwards running engages a wide variety of muscles that aren’t actively engaged during normal, frontwards running.

It takes a while to adjust to running backwards and it’s easy to run into things when you first start out. With practice, your body will eventually adjust to the new way of running. You may also wish to schedule LongSpine Method appointments at Newport Medical and Wellness Center, since you need to have strong core muscles to support this strange new way of running.

Plogging

Plogging is a great way to get your workout in while simultaneously beautifying your community. It’s typically done in groups and involves jogging while collecting garbage you see along the way. Just make sure you bring a garbage bag with you if you plan to participate in this eco-friendly activity.

Kangaroo Jumping

Just when you thought it couldn’t get any weirder, Kangoo entered the picture. This high-energy activity involves jumping like a kangaroo with the use of special shoes called Kangoo Jumps. Despite how strange this activity may sound, it’s actually a lot of fun and can work your muscles in a whole new way. Give it a try and it might become your new favorite workout of all time.

If you decide to try any of these workouts this year, you’re in for a fun and entertaining treat. Be sure to schedule a massage appointment with Newport Medical and Wellness Center when you’re first trying a new workout. Muscles tend to get very sore when you engage in activities you’re not used to.
