It’s not always easy to get to the gym and work out every day, especially when the nights are longer and you have less daylight. But you still need to get your body moving to experience the health benefits regular exercise provides. Missing a workout at the gym won’t derail your progress, as long as you make up for it with an at-home workout. Here are some fun and easy tips for exercising at home.

Plan Your Workout Routines

You don’t need an instructor at the front of the room to guide you through a good workout. You can do a lot of great workouts at home if you plan them correctly. To get started, sit down with a piece of paper and a pencil and write down some of your favorite workouts you do in the gym. Which of them don’t require specialized fitness equipment? Choose the ones you can do at home with just your body and some weights, then cycle through your top 10 choices. If your workout isn’t long enough by the time you finish all the exercises on your paper, simply repeat the movements until you’ve reached your desired activity time.

Self-guided workouts aren’t for everyone, so if you really need some guidance to help you through, consider investing in quality workout DVDs. Or, you can stream your workouts online. There are a dizzying variety of free workouts available on YouTube as well.

Use Household Items

If you don’t have weights at home, no problem! Figure out what household items you can use as weights. Canned goods, milk jugs and books can all become makeshift weights that may be a little awkward, but provide similar results as professional weights.

Stay Motivated

When you work out at home, you don’t have a class full of other people to be accountable to. That’s why it’s essential to keep yourself motivated. One great way to do so is by rewarding yourself for your achievements. Ideally, your rewards should involve experiences rather than foods. For example, if you work out at least five days a week for an entire month, consider rewarding yourself with a  dermal filler session at Newport Medical and Wellness Center. Or, you might consider going on a shopping spree once you reach your weight loss goal.

Give Yourself a Designated Space

When you have your own mini gym at home, you’re more likely to use it. Depending on your space restrictions, your workout space may be as big as a spare room or as small as a corner of your bedroom. Make do with what you have. Installing shelves can be a great way to hide your weights, resistance bands and Yoga mat while keeping them in easy reach.

Download a Few Apps

Tracking your progress is essential to maintaining your motivation when you’re working out at home. Fortunately, there are many different apps that can help you achieve your goal. Whether you need help tracking your activities, what you eat or how your weight changes over time, you can find an app that is just what you need.

You don’t have to go to the gym to get great results. Working out at home can be a fun and effective way to stay fit. Try these helpful tips to get started.
