Relieving Pain with Chiropractic Services

The daily stresses of life can wreak havoc on the body. Whether we’re sitting in traffic for hours on our daily commute, spending the day hunched over a computer or doing manual labor that taxes our every reserve, the spine suffers the brunt of the rigors of life. In fact, experts estimate that roughly 80 percent of people will experience a back problem at some point in their lives.

That’s why chiropractors exist: to undo the damage our bodies absorb after everything we put them through. Using a century-old technique based on manual therapy, chiropractic services treat and prevent neuromusculoskeletal disorders, particularly those that cause lower back pain, neck pain and headaches.

Why Chiropractic Services Work

Working hand in hand with related practices like massage therapy, physical therapy and chiropractic services address the underlying issues causing discomfort and outright pain in the spinal region, as well as the skeletal, nerve and muscle groups affected by it.

Through practiced manipulation of the spine and the body’s extremities, chiropractic care can in many cases reduce inflammation, restore mobility, alleviate pain and tightness, and allow muscles to heal. Client assessments such as clinical examination, lab testing, diagnostic imaging and other interventions are conducted to make sure the most effective course of care is followed.

What Chiropractic Care Can Do For You

The World Health Organization has stated in its reports that chiropractic care can be considered safe when employed skillfully and appropriately. Most often, it’s used to treat the spine, as well as other joints and tissues when needed. It’s most frequently credited with reducing lower back pain – an issue affecting more than 31 million Americans at any given moment.

Meet Our Chiropractor

The on-site chiropractor at Newport Medical and Wellness, Dr. Monaco, specializes in Active Release Techniques (ART) and is certified in upper extremity, lower extremity, spine, nerve entrapments and has completed the master’s course. This technique addresses the soft tissue component of neuro-musculoskeletal pain and dysfunction.

Dr. Monaco also uses diversified adjusting techniques, as well as some non-force techniques to address extremity and specific spinal segmental dysfunction. ART is an official sponsor of the Ironman Triathlon, and Dr. Monaco has participated as a member of the treatment team sent to work with the athletes. Her practice focuses on helping her patients achieve their health and wellness goals through the identification of the biomechanical breakdown associated with pain and the restoration of maximum function.

What Are The Long-Term Effects of Chiropractic Care?

One-half of all Americans report experiencing back pain at least once per year. It’s the most commonly-cited reason for missing work, and the second-most cited reason for visits to the doctor’s office (after upper respiratory infections, i.e., the common cold).

The fact that most back pain is caused by mechanical or non-organic sources – in other words, they’re not due to infection, fracture, cancer or inflammatory arthritis – means chiropractic care can readily address most cases. Effective chiropractic care means less pain, less missed work, more productivity and greater comfort overall.
